Editorial policy

Open News Insights aims to explain news practices accurately and fairly. We write for readers rather than for a political position, product or outside agenda, and we make clear what an explanation can and cannot establish.

Accuracy and clarity

We check factual statements against suitable material available to us and use precise wording when the evidence or meaning is limited. An explanation should distinguish a reported fact, a source's assertion and an interpretation. We avoid implying certainty where information is incomplete, and we revise wording that could leave a misleading impression.

Independence

Editorial decisions belong to the publication. A contributor, partner or advertiser does not receive control over coverage or the conclusions of editorial material. If a relationship could affect how a piece is understood, we will describe it clearly rather than expecting readers to infer it.

Corrections

If you believe a page contains a factual error or unclear description, contact us through the Contact page and identify the passage and page. We review specific concerns, correct confirmed errors and clarify substantial changes so readers can understand what was amended. A correction is not a promise to adopt a reader's interpretation where the underlying point remains a matter of judgment.

Partner material and illustrations

Paid, sponsored or partner material is identified in a way that distinguishes it from independent editorial explanation. A partnership does not determine our editorial conclusions. Some illustrations may be AI-generated; where this is relevant to understanding an image, we label it. Illustrations are not presented as documentary evidence of a real event.
